The Orquestra Cordas da Ilha (Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil) emerged from a project idealized by bassist and music producer Paulo Matos, in 2005, with the aim of providing music education encouraging the study of classical music and the public formation. The orchestra is composed of nine members: four violins, two violas, two cellos and a double bass, often having soloist guests. The project is made viable by municipal, state and federal tax incentives through the Secretaria de Estado de Turismo Cultura e Esporte (FUNCULTURAL), the Fundação Cultural de Florianópolis Franklin Cascaes and of the Ministério da Cultura (Lei Rouanet). Thus, the Orquestra de Cordas da Ilha has performed in concerts all over the state of Santa Catarina.
Marcos Pablo Dalmacio is the Artistic Director and violinist in the orchestra. He prepares and presents programs dedicated mainly to the retrieving of little-known composers from different periods of music history: from Vivaldi´s contemporary Evaristo Dall’Abaco; Mozart´s, as Chevallier de Saint George; or Schumann´s, like Robert Volkmann to works by Brazilian composers of the early twentieth century as Alberto Nepomuceno and Alexandre Levy. The orchestra also performs works by contemporary artists as Edino Krieger or Ernani Aguiar, besides works of Dalmacio himself.| | | Next → |
